Brentwood's 2010 Tax Rate
Posted: Mon Nov 29 2010 at 10:34:25amBrentwood residents and property owners should be in receipt of their final tax bill for 2010. As indicated on the tax bill, our tax rate is $23.86, an increase of $3.33 or 16.2% over 2009.
The breakdown of the rate is as follows:
Town Rate $3.86
Local School Rate $16.63
State School Rate $2.37
County Rate $1.00
Total $23.86
There are several factors contributing to this increase and they are as follows:
1. The Town-wide revaluation which resulted in the net valuation for the Town, on which the tax rate is computed, to decrease by $41,891,638 (a decrease of approximately 8.1%).
2. Not only did the Cooperative School District Budget increase by $619,080 (1.3%) but Brentwood's portion of the School District Budget increased, based on enrollment figures, from 14.85% to 15.43%.
3. Swasey School Budget increased by $139,521 (2.8%)
4. A projected decrease in revenues of approximately 9.8%, particularly in motor vehicle registrations and interest income; plus the removal of Police Private Detail revenues from the general fund into their revolving account.
Please remember, your votes at Town Meeting and the Brentwood School District Meeting determine the budgets for these 2 areas.
All property owners are encouraged to print out a copy of their property card at the Town Office. If you disagree with the new assessment of your property, you may submit an abatement application by March 1, 2011.
