Southeast Regional Refuse Disposal District Representatives Needed
Posted: Thu Aug 12 2010 at 09:48:47amThe Board of Selectmen is seeking volunteers to serve as Alternative Representatives on Southeast Regional Refuse Disposal District 53B (SRRDD 53B). SRRDD 53B was established on December 17, 1987 in accordance with and pursuant to the provisions of the NH RSA Chapter 53-B. It is a nonprofit organization developed for the purpose of operating a solid waste disposal district. It is currently serving 10 Towns: Brentwood, Fremont, Hampton, Hampton Falls, Kensington, New Castle, North Hampton, Rye, Sandown and South Hampton. Its objectives are to provide for disposal of solid waste of the district and to provide some means of recycling a portion of that solid waste. Among other things, they were able to pick up the slack when the Kingston Landfill closed and are responsible for the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days held in Hampton and Brentwood.
Each member municipality should have one Representative and two Alternate Representatives. We are fortunate to have Doug Cowie serve as our Representative but are in need of two Alternates. SRRDD 53B holds quarterly meetings at which attendance is imperative.
If this sounds like something you may be interested in doing or you have questions about SRRDD 53B or the Alternate position, feel free to call the Selectman's Office at 642-6400 x10.
